I've always had a problem with portions. If you give me an apple, I'll eat the apple. But if you give me a huge bag of potato chips, I'll eat the entire bag! So how do I practice portion control and make it as easy as possible? The single serving.

The single serving is a true blessing. It's one package or one unit or one item that you can finish off entirely and feel okay about it after. Here are some of my faves:

Ladies and gentleman I present to you The King of Single Servings: The Walgreen's! I go to the one on Folsom and Zinfandel in Rancho Cordova. Check out their single serving section full of healthy stuff:

These are mostly 1-2 ounce packages full of nuts and dried fruits. Now, will you pay more on a per ounce basis for these single serving items? OF COURSE YOU WILL. But to me, it's worth it. I make that mad paper, son! Okay, not really.

With the nuts, you want to watch out for the salt. With the dried fruit, you wanna watch out for the sugar/ carbs. I usually buy 1 (or 2) bags of the salted peanuts, 1 (or 2) bags of the roasted almonds, and 1 (or 2) bags of the trail mix. They're all b/w 1-2 ounces per bag.

I've really got into bars too. Granola bars, energy bars, nutrition bars, diet/ weight loss bars, and protein bars. In the Walgreen's, they have lots of them. But more importantly, you can buy 1 (or 2) protein bars i.e. you don't have to buy an entire box of them! Yay for single servings! I usually get the Supreme Protein bars because they're low in carbs.

Over at the Target (I go to the one on Olson Dr in Rancho Cordova) there's single serving nirvana to be had as well.

Do you like the crunchy sweetness of granola? I just found these the other week. They're "Larabar Renola" and they'r pretty tasty. Matter of fact, Target has a small section of its own for single serving breakfast cereal. Score!

Yogurt is GREAT for single servings. It's the entire package in one convenient container. I've been diggin' on the Yoplait 100 Greek Yogurt. Greek Yogurt is good for you because it has a lot of protein in it, and the Yoplait 100 version doesn't have a lot of sugar in it. Some will say that Yoplait 100 has artificial sweeteners, but I tell those people to SUCK IT! I'm not perfect. This is something I enjoy. So I eat it.

One thing I've been seeing recently is the single serving cup of fruit. Of course you can always eat an apple or a banana and there's your single serving courtesy of mothernature. But I love me some berries!

Target has been having these little cups of fresh fruit for a few months now. Hell, I've even seen them at the 7-11! It's good stuff. And like I said, you don't have to buy a huge bushel of strawberries. The fruit cup that I bought has strawberries, blueberries, and even a couple blackberries in it. BOMB! They even (oddly) say "Actual Berry Blend" on them!

Target also has a bar section where they sell some of them individually. Again, I like being able to buy a bar or 2 without having to buy an entire box- because I will probably eat the entire box! I bought a Zone Perfect bar here. Kind bars are also great. Trader Joe's sells individual bars as well. There, I like to buy the Power Crunch bars.

Hope you enjoyed the post!
