Maui firefighters extinguished eight different brush fires that appeared to be intentionally set in the Lahaina area early Tuesday. They were close in distance and were set within about an hour of each other. No property was damaged. The first fire was reported just after 3:30 a.m. near the Lahaina bypass and Keawe Street. When firefighters arrived, they discovered there were three separate grass fires. Seven minutes after that call, another brush fire was reported on the mauka side of Honoapiilani Highway, followed by a third call above Leialii Parkway, which also turned out to be three separate brush fires.
