Officer Shoots Teen After Knife Attack at Roosevelt High School
Posted January 28th, 2014 @ 12:15pm

A 17-year-old boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, after he was shot by a Honolulu police officer at Roosevelt High School.  It happened at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.  Police say they responded to the school to pick up an outstanding runaway.  When they got there, a boy attacked a police officer with a knife. He stabbed in the chest, but the officer was wearing a protective vest and the knife didn't penetrate his body.  Another officer saw the threat and fired two shots at the teen, striking him in the arm.   Paramedics arrived on the scene and took the boy to the hospital.  He had a gunshot wound to his wrist and was in serious condition. The school went on lockdown. Police confirmed the suspect was in custody.  Parents were notified they could pick their children up at the school's track field at 10 a.m. A representative of SHOPO, the police union, was on the scene, as an officer was involved in the shooting. The officer has been placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure in the case of an officer firing his weapon.
