Eleven fire companies responded to a three-alarm fire in Ewa Beach Friday afternoon. The initial alarm was sounded at 1:24 p.m. and firefighters arrived five minutes later. Two separate structures were on fire on Kuilioloa Place. One building had five units and the other had four units. A total of 45 firefighters worked to control the flames. The fire was declared under control at 2:11 p.m. Fire Spokesman Captain David Jenkins said a total of six families were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting those affected. A 26-year-old neighbor injured his arm breaking a window to warn residents about the fire. He was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. An investigator will determine the origin, cause of the fire and a damage estimate. Fire Captain Jenkins said in large fires, involving multiple units, it is very important for each family to have their own fire evacuation plan and meet at a safe place. That will make it easier to account for everyone.
