Hokulea crew spots Rapa Nui

The crew of Hawaii's voyaging canoe is celebrating after crew members spotted the island of Rapa Nui – more commonly known as Easter Island – Sunday evening.

The crew has been looking at nothing but water since leaving the Galapagos Islands nearly three weeks ago.

The vessel's 'round-the-world trip to help people "care for island Earth" began nearly three years ago.
