Governor's BOE Pick Resigns for New Position

Darrel Galera, who was appointed to the state Board of Education by Governor David Ige, resigned from his position Tuesday, to apply for the job of State Superintendent of Hawaii's public schools. Galera said the decision to step down from his seat on the Board of Education was made "after deep reflection."  He also requested that he remain as chair of the Governor's ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act)  team, as it wraps up its work finalizing the blueprint for Hawaii's public education and looks toward implementation. Galera's resignation is effective immediately.
