Dan Patrick Doesn't Think Jimmy Garoppolo Will Back With 49ers Next Season

Dan Patrick: “It was on the CBS pregame show, Jason La Canfora said that the 49ers were going to ‘reassess’ Jimmy Garoppolo in the offseason. I don’t think he threw a touchdown pass on Sunday, he had a couple interceptions, and they blew out the Patriots – he didn’t look great… I would be surprised if Garoppolo was the quarterback next year in San Francisco. Kyle Shanahan is probably looking at this and wondering that with a more experienced quarterback they probably win the Super Bowl last year, and with a more experienced quarterback THIS year are they going back to the Super Bowl? They’ve got a lot of talent on that team. I don’t think they’re as good as they were last year, but I don’t think Jimmy G is good enough to win those kind of games for you. He’s got maybe the best tight end in football, one of the most exciting wide receivers, a great offensive line, and a great running attack. QUARTERBACK is the one question.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Dan Patrick explain why he doesn’t think 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be back with the Niners next year, as the 28-year-old quarterback who has spent four seasons with the team has two years left on his current deal, but with no more guaranteed money remaining.

Garoppolo is 22-7 as the starter in San Francisco, but he currently ranks last in the league in Air Yards, and has just 7 touchdown passes in five games. In last year's postseason, Garoppolo passed for just 427 yards in three games, with 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. In their blowout 37-20 NFC championship win over Green Bay, Jimmy G attempted just 8 passes, and threw for 77 yards. He went 11/19 for 131 in the Super Bowl with a TD and INT, in their heartbreaking loss to the Chiefs.

Check out the segment above as Dan details why Jimmy G. might just be the only weakness on a loaded 49ers team looking to get back to the Super Bowl.
